Praxis: The Wootest and Beyond

BC Slayer!

The Wootest, fresh out of the press

Sorry we’ve been away for a bit but the snow finally started to fall over here in the Tahoe area and, honestly, after an incredibly thin year, writing a blog during a powder cycle wasn’t necessarily on the top of our to-do list. However, after a few good days of skiing fast and getting our faces hit with the white stuff we figured it was time to get back in touch with those of you who are interested in what’s going on with Praxis Skis these days.

So, Praxis Skis has been around for awhile now.  We’ve gone from a garage near Donner Summit, to a small shop in Truckee, to our current location on the North Shore in Incline Village, where the bars never close.  We’ve constantly learned how to improve our product throughout the years and in doing so steadily gained a reputation as a true skier’s ski maker, a description we’re proud of. This year we stepped up our lineup to include models and sizes that can accommodate any type of skier.  From the weekend warrior to the guy in the tram that smells bad and has duct take all over his gear, Praxis is stoked to be able to offer a ski that will make you more confident on the hill.

With all that said, something pretty awesome happened recently that somehow made our poor snow coverage seem alright.  Conceived through an internet forum, the stork carrying a baby named Wootest arrived at the Praxis shop ready to be formed into a potentially game-changing backcountry slayer! If you’re unfamiliar with what I’m talking about or if my stork-conception analogy wasn’t the most clear, then click here, because the guys over at Blister Gear Reviews say things way better than we can. Anyhow, one of the cooler components associated with the Wootest idea is the fact that folks can basically make the ski their own.  Essentially, outside of the shape of the ski, the customer can truly customize their ideal board with choices in flexes, weights, topsheet material and graphics. You’ve always thought our concepts were too stiff, let us know and we’ll soften it up for you.  You’ve considered some of our models too be too heavy to take out in the backcountry, let us thin out that core and throw some carbon fiber in that mother! The combinations are virtually limitless.

Tabke, out for a little walk

The excitement that was created over the Wootest before we even began production was so inspiring that offering those customization options as a regular part of the 2013 Praxis Ski lineup seemed to be a no-brainer.  Next week we’ll talk with Keith, the mad genius behind Praxis, about what you guys can expect from us in the future.  You know we’ll be making the same bomb-proof skis we’ve become known for, but be on the lookout for so much more!

I’d love to see a Backcountry style ski with a flatter tail and a notch for skins in the back also maybe a couple holes up front for the backcountry “i’m out here being huge” look. Oh, and maybe a thin slice of metal where the binders attach.

Improve the tail notch on the BC, it’s pretty useless.  Otherwise, rockin pair of backcountry boards.
